Our Best Dream Trips & Hotels Of A Lifetime

South Africa

Nelson Mandela said, "I believe that South Africa is the most beautiful place on earth. Admittedly, I am biased but when you combine the natural beauty of sunny South Africa with the friendliness and cultural diversity of our people, and the fact that the region is a haven for Africa's most splendid wildlife, then I think that we have been blessed with a truly wonderful land." We couldn't agree more..!

Wildebeest Migration, Tanzania, Kenya

Wildebeest Migration, Tanzania, Kenya: The yearly Wildebeest migration in Tanzania’s Serengeti, and Kenya’s Masai Mara just might be called, “the greatest animal show on earth.” It is quite a spectacle to see thousands of Wildebeest and Zebras migrate to greener pastures as the seasons change. Lions, Cheetahs and other pray follow waiting for an opportunity to strike the strays and the weak. The precise timing of the Wildebeest Migration changes annually and it is a very unpredictable and spontaneous natural event. The calving season takes place in the Serengeti between the months of January and mid-March before the Wildebeest Migration begins heading towards the western Serengeti in June. The best time to see the migration is usually between June and August when the wildebeest congregate and prepare to cross the famous Grumeti River.

There are a few excellent camps in this area where you can stay to witness this natural phenomenon. If you are in the Masai Mara you can expect the wildebeest to make their arrival as early as July, but they generally arrive between August and September and remain in the Mara between October and November. Between December and January the wildebeest gradually begin their migration back towards the Serengeti. To really have an experience of a lifetime take a hot air balloon ride and watch the migratory patterns from high above in the sky. From an aerial view one can see for miles the migration taking place.

Marrakech - For the Rich and Famous

Marrakech has been a destination for the rich and famous for decades. Back in the Seventies you were likely to find Yves Saint Laurent, Mick Jagger, the Getty's and other members of the Jet Set hanging out at Shisha cafes in the Medina, and doing all kinds of things that they couldn't possibly get away with at home. A lot has changed since then, and although the small riads located near the souks in the medina still attract visitors, it's the luxury hotel development that has occurred over the last decade that's got everyone talking.

Outer Space, The Final Frontier

Outer Space, The Final Frontier: Thanks to the ingenuity and drive of our friend and space travel pioneer, Richard Branson, space travel is now possible. Flights depart from the Virgin Galactic space center in New Mexico in the United States for your gateway to space. Perhaps this is the ultimate splurge on travel of a lifetime. At a mere cost of around 10 times more expensive than Singapore or Emirate suite rooms, it’s actually quite a bargain. The super spacecraft cost for your flight in the final frontier is $200,000 per person. You had better be serious as a $20,000 deposit is required. There is said to be around 500 ticket holders in line to make the gaunt with Virgin Galactic. Six lucky passengers and two pilots per trip. Its planned trajectory will circumnavigate the Earth’s atmosphere at 70,000 feet. The sub orbital journey will also have a short period of weightlessness. The spacecraft, SpaceShipTwo, will be carried to about 16 kilometers or 52000 ft by a carrier aircraft, White Knight II. At that point, when the carrier aircraft reaches its maximum height, the SpaceShipTwo vehicle will separate and continue to over 100 km (the Kármán line, a common definition of where “space” begins). The time from liftoff of the White Knight booster carrying SpaceShipTwo until the touchdown of SpaceShipTwo after the sub-orbital flight will be about 3.5 hours. The sub-orbital flight itself will only be a small fraction of that time. The weightlessness will last approximately 6 minutes. Passengers will be able to release themselves from their seats during these 6 minutes and float around the cabin. Got an $200,000 to spare? You too can have your Star Trek moment.

Santorini, Greece

Santorini, Greece: The Mediterranean is dotted throughout with many beautiful islands. In fact, Greece alone has over 3,000 islands. But out of all the islands in the world, perhaps that most beautiful is Santorini, Greece. It’s not an island, it is indeed a volcano. Santorini is consistently voted in the top 10 islands in the world by world renowned travel experts, myself included. One of the most mystical and romantic places in the world. It owns its curved “croissant” shape to the tremendous volcanic eruption that took place 3.500 years ago and literally sank the largest part of the island into the deep waters of the Aegean Sea, creating a seven mile crater, the famous Caldera. It is well known around the world for its stunning sunsets and the most breathtaking views of the endless blue of the Aegean Sea.

The architecture of Santorini is also unique with white cave houses literally perched on the highest point of the steep black cliffs, offering amazing views and stabilized temperatures of 18-20 Celsius at all seasons.
Many stories and myths are weaved around Santorini.
The most famous of these stories is that the tidal wave that was caused from the volcanic explosion back on 1.550BC completely destroyed the legendary lost city of Atlantis which was supposed to be located somewhere between Santorini and Crete.

Visit the black san beach of Perissa. Stay high on the hill in the village of Oia. Note that staying in the hillside cliffs of Oia and Fira can be very expensive in the peak summer months. Consider Santorini in May, September, October.

The little town of Siem Reap is now densely populated filled with hotels, bars, and restaurants. But the main attraction are the ruins of Angkor. Iceland: The land of plenty

Iceland may be a largely uninhabited country in the middle of nowhere, but it boasts the world's oldest democracy, the most northerly capital city, four conquerors of Mount Everest, three Miss World's, and even a Nobel laureate for literature. All of this makes for a very interesting country, and that's before you've visited the glaciers, rift valleys, thermal fissures, black-sand beaches, and one hundred and twenty five volcanic mountains, one of which was once thought to be the entrance to hell..!

Park Hyatt, Sydney..The Best in Town

The Park Hyatt Sydney, the location is faultless, the views are incredible, the staff model perfect in looks and hospitality, and oh yes, the view is perfect. Did I say that already…? Everywhere you go you could see the Opera House, the harbor and depending on where you were, the bridge. You see, the property is almost directly below it, although you won't see that in most of the photos, including ours. Everything on the inside has been gutted, rethought and put back together even better than before. There are less rooms, more suites and even an extra floor with pool and spa which right now is all the buzz in Sydney, so book your treatments before you arrive. The style is natural with a lot of sandstone and local woods used to create a luxurious but clean and modern look that Park Hyatt is famous for, and we just happen to love. Rooms to choose are the Opera King or Opera Deluxe, and we also like the Rooftop Suite and the Sydney Suite if someone else is paying the bill.

Myanmar "Burma" Go Now Before Everyone Else Does…

With a fairly new president, Aung San Suu Kyo no longer under house arrest, and Hillary Clinton arriving in town to welcome Myanmar into the real world, all bets are off as to how long it's going to take for the country to become the next must-see-before-you-die destination. The truth is that Myanmar has always been a special place to experience, and now that it's okay to visit we want everyone to know that this is the time to go. The people are still genuinely welcoming and inviting to stangers, and with only 300,000 visitors last year, compared to 19 million who visited Thailand, they have a lot more time to take good care of you. Having said that, it's not going to be too long before many of those 19 million currently visiting Thailand start crossing the border..!

India - The Leela Palaca…

March is the perfect month to visit India, and the desert lands of Rajasthan. Days are sunny and hot, with temperatures around 88ºF (31ºC), and nights cool off to a very comfortable 64ºF (18ºC). Udaipur is the destination, and The Leela Palace is where to stay. Sitting on the shores of Lake Pichola within walking distance of the city, this is India at its most romantic, opulent, and luxurious. Eighty rooms and suites all face the lake, and the style is contemporary in a very distinctly Indian way. There is nothing to fault, so enjoy the stunning restaurants, the drop-dead gorgeous ESPA spa, and sip on Pink Gins with your better half as you watch the sunset over the lake.

Copenhagen's Best Hotel..The unassuming Nimb

Our hotel of choice today is The Nimb, which opened to much acclaim in 2008, and deserves all of the praise that it continues to get. Located at Tivoli Gardens, it looks like nothing from the street, but on the Tivoli side it looks like a Moorish Bazaar that's lit up like a christmas tree every day of the year. You might wonder from the outside, why anyone would ever want to stay here, but get on the inside, and you'll immediately feel right at home. The style is an eclectic mix of old and new Danish interior design, and it works very well. With only seventeen unique rooms and suites, you can't go wrong except for room # 1 which doesn't overlook the gardens, and room # 3 which doesn't have an open fireplace. Personal favorites include any of the Junior Suites, and Suite Eleven which we could quite happily have moved into for a much longer stay. Service is personalized and flawless, and the Audi A8 limousine service came in handy more than once. Dining options include Brasserie for Scandinavian classics, Bar'n'Grill for steaks and seafood, and during the endless days of summer, Terrasse is the perfect place to enjoy lunch and dinner.

See Venice and Cipriani

Hotel Cipriani epitomizes everything that you've ever dreamed Venice would be like. Although you won't find many panama hatted art-lovers and writers among the guests anymore, you will find the most glamorous, sophisticated, and wealthy visitors from around the world staying here. Rooms and suites have at last been renovated, and now at least look more in tune with the prices you will pay, but choose carefully or you may be disappointed. In the main building the Junior Suites overlooking the pool are our first choice, and other than that we would suggest that you request one of the 16 rooms and suites in Palazzo Vendramin which is linked to the hotel through a flower filled courtyard. Here you will find full butler service, and the Dogaressa Suite, which is the best accommodation in the city. The Olympic-sized pool is the place to be seen all day, at least in summer, and at night enjoy drinks and dinner at Cip's Club, but book ahead as it's popular with locals, too.
